Pink Fingernails, Twins and a "Cow Suckin' Goat"

Sunday afternoon, after we had filled our bellies with Easter ham, my Dad excused himself to go check on a cow that had started calving. Shortly thereafter, John Wayne's cell phone rang. The cow had had twins and Dad wanted John Wayne to saddle a horse and come help him bring the trio in. I jumped at the chance to ride and see a new set of twins!

I could already picture it in my head...
Dad: "What is taking him so long?"
{I pop over the hill}
Dad: "Oh."

Anyways...

John Wayne, always the gentleman. Well, most of the time. Some mornings I struggle to the car with baby, diaper bag, purse and coffee in hand with no assistance, but most of the time he'll open the gate.

Is there anything better than this view?
Not much beats being horseback. I envy my Dad this time of year, he rides through the cows twice daily during calving season. He's always said he doesn't care that it takes longer, he'd rather be horseback than bouncing through the pasture in a pick-up any day.
I couldn't agree more.

Moe is wondering why we are stopping in the middle of the pasture, to take a picture. He's pretty sure that Tony or John Wayne has never asked him to do this before.

I promised you pink fingernails.

These are the type of things that happen when you're me and your horseback with a camera trailing a cow.

OK, more than my pink fingernails, you probably wanted to see the twins!

Cuties!!!

Remember last week when we introduced you to the Little Lady's pet goat, Oreo. Well, Oreo is also known as the "cow suckin' goat" {my Dad's words, not mine}.

He follows my Dad just like a little puppy dog.

And here he is, the "cow suckin' goat" in action.

Marketing Plug: The milk cow is for sale. {Don't worry, we won't let Oreo starve, we'll find him a bottle or something.}

So there you have it, pink fingernails, twins and a "cow suckin' goat" from the Hammer Ranch.

P.S. That edit totally killed my pink fingernails...diluted them and didn't do them justice! : )

Some more Easter pics...

Easter Morning

So, this morning someone was wishing the Easter bunny would just go crawl back into its hole and let her sleep.

We had to get up early (and according to this little sorority girl's schedule, early is anything before 10AM, yes the Little Lady likes to sleep in!) so that we could see what the Easter bunny brought and make it to Grandma and Grandpa's house in time for breakfast and then church.

After some milk, we were in a little better mood, but still really sleepy.

She followed the egg trail out into the living room, but before she was even at all interested in looking at her goodies, she had to do one important thing...find her bop!

Bop in hand, or I guess that would be bop in mouth, she was ready to rock n' roll and very excited about what the Easter bunny brought her!

Swimming pool: check.
Swing: check.
Bring on summer!!!

Admiring her new necklace, complete with her name stamped on it and a pink flower with a pearl center!

Lolly pop, lolly pop, oh lolly lolly lolly...!!!

Hmmm, what do we have here???

A baby Violet! (Violet is her best pal that lullabies her to sleep.)

OK, so this stuff is all really cool, but can I go back to bed now?!?!

Easter Eggs!!!

The other day I gave the Little Lady a bunch of plastic eggs to play with. Undoubtedly, her new favorite toy. Yesterday at Target I picked up this adorable basket for a $1. We've been trying to get her to "hunt" eggs, but rather than picking them up and putting them in her basket, she'd rather break them into two and throw them on the ground.

Tonight, we dyed the real thing at Grandma and Grandpa's house.

The Little Lady wanted nothing more than to get right in the middle of it.

Tressie's special egg with her name AND glitter on it!

Our masterpiece!

Going off her track record, we'll have a bunch of scrambled eggs if we let her get her hands on these!

Good Friday

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrate his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:6-8

Dora Chair

Tonight (because she's spoiled) Grandma and Grandpa gave her one of her Easter presents, this Dora chair.

She LOVES it!

Such a big girl.

When we asked her where Dora was...

Thanks Grandpa and Grandma!

Little Indian Tressie

Tressie's Grandpa taught her to make "Indian noises."

Here she is performing at a restaurant last week. She recently added the pounding on the table accompaniment.

Tressie's Pet Goat

Meet Oreo. (Yes, we are original here on the Hammer Ranch.)

Oreo is an orphan. (Yes, sad I know.)
But when you're an orphan goat, you quickly turn into a puppy dog and become very fond of your humans. (Although, Oreo isn't your typical bottle baby, he actually eats from an Irish Dexter cow. Yes, you're going to need to see pictures of that, coming soon.)

Oreo is Tressie's new pet.

Up close and personal.

Time out for some playing in the dirt.

Grandpa is Oreo's favorite person (kinda like Tressie).

Hope you all had a good weekend too!
